The Truckee is worthy

Great access. Great water. Big fish.
But for all the superlatives sent its way, Truckee River trout are far from pushovers. After 70 days in Alaska, my California reintroduction trip was to the Truckee for browns and rainbows and it took some work.
I had been fishing short 12-pound mono leader for salmon on the Thorne River in Southeast Alaska, so putting a zebra midge on 6X tippet was about as different as it gets in the freshwater.
Since it is late summer and the snow pack was shy of normal, the water is warm and low which makes it great for fishermen getting around, but it can be a little tougher to get on fish….
